Jal cyclone latest situation: November 7 night

Jal cyclone has weakened from severe cyclone to cyclone even before crossing the coast. It is expected to cross Tamil Nadu coast near Chennai in a couple of hours. Moderate to heavy rainfall was reported in the last 12 hours from all Coastal and Rayalaseema districts. Location: Jal cyclone is situated 90 km east of Chennai city & 200 km southeast of Nellore city. It is moving at a speed of 13kmph over the past 6 hours. It has weakened due to partial interaction with coast within the past 6 hours. It will turn into depression by tomorrow morning. Cross coast: Cyclone is expected to make landfall near Ennore (between Chennai and Pulicat lake) by midnight. Weather forecast: Heavy rainfall would occur in Coastal and Rayalaseema districts especially at the time of landfall. Wind speed reaching 60-80 kmph would commence along and off Southern Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Heavy rains would occur in Rayalaseema districts on November 8. Maximum impact of Cyclone will be on Nellore and Chittoor districts while moderate to high effect on Prakasam and Kadapa districts. Andhra Cyclone update: November 4, 2010

Depression formed in the Bay of Bengal is now situated 1200 km east of Chennai and is expected cross Indian coast (landfall) between Chennai and Ongole on November 7 evening. Alert: Heavy to very heavy rainfall will occur from November 6 morning along the Andhra Coast. Wind speeds: Squally winds speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph would commence along and off south Andhra Pradesh coast from morning of 6th November 2010. Sea conditions will be rough to very rough along and off these coasts from the same time. Districts at risk: Nellore, Prakasam & Guntur It is difficult to imagine the impact of very heavy rains with wind speed reaching 60-75 kmph on the Prakasam and Nellore districts which are already inundated with water due to recent rains. Andhra weather: Tropical cyclone alert

Depression formed in the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify and turns into a tropical Cyclone storm in the next 24 hours. Depression area is located 1,460 km East-South East of Chennai. It is moving very slowly towards Indian east coast. Highest rainfall in the last 24 hours occured in Ongole (6cm) and Kavali. More clarity about Cyclone will be emerged by Thursday afternoon (November 4). Very heavy rainfall will occur in South Coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh and Northern Tamil Nadu. Weather update: November 3, 2010

Heavy rains over last 2 days took heavy toll on the people of Coastal Andhra Pradesh especially on farmers. According to reports, heavy rains may last for another 2-3 days. But, no Cyclone warning is issued till now but weather department is closely monitoring the low presssure area which was formed in the Bay of Bengal near Andaman Islands. We may get more clarity on the situation by tomorrow afternoon. Weather alerts: 1. Well marked Low pressure area was formed in the South Andaman sea. 2. It is expected to concentrate into a depression in the same area by November 4th. 3. It may intensify into a cyclonic storm and move west-northwestward towards north Tamilnadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts. Weather forecast for South Coastal Andhra Pradesh: Heavy rainfall will occur in many Coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh in the next 24-72 hours especially in South Coastal Andhra i.e; Nellore, Prakasam, Guntur & Chittoor. Laila cyclone latest update-5
Current location: East of Ongole town and 220 kms north east of Chennai At 6 PM on Thursday: Near Machilipatnam. Heavy rainfall with wind speeds of 50-60 kms. It may not cross near Machilipatnam but moves slowly very near to that town. Both Krishna and Godavari district people should be on high alert. Its path is very near to these coasts. Expected landfall: Cyclone may cross Andhra coast near Kakinada at 1-2 AM on Friday. Update from Ongole: Heavy rainfall for last 6 hours with wind speeds of 30-40 kms. Water entered into many houses in Ongole town. Cyclone movement: It is moving slowly and moved just 6 kms in last 6 hours. Andhra cyclone (Laila) update – 3
Laila Cyclone is now located at just 70 Nautical Miles (130 kilometers) east-northeast of Chennai. It moved 10 kms in north-west direction in last 6 hours. Maximum wave height will be around 15 feet. Political effect: Congress party post-poned "Punarankitha Sabha" due to "Laila" cyclone and asked cadre to participate in cyclone assistance and rehalitation programmes. According to NASA, this cyclone was formed as a low depression centre on May 17. It was intensified in last 2 days to become a cyclone. According to a study done by National Remote Sensing Agency (Balanagar, Hyderabad), very few cyclones crossed Ongole and Vizag coasts. Landfall of most cyclones is in Nellore, krishna and Godavari districts (Pennar, krishna and Godavari rivers). As per study, severe storms mostly originated in November and May. Laila cyclone is now located at 400 kms east of Chennai and 500 kms of Vizag. Low pressure area formed in Bay of Bengal on Monday is now turned into Cyclone and is expected to cross Andhra coast between Ongole and Vizag on Thursday as per latest weather reports. As per weather reports, this is the biggest cyclone in Andhra history in last 13 years. Strong winds with a speed of 70-80 kms per hour may cause heavy losses in coastal areas from today night. Cyclone is expected to move in north-west direction. When cyclone crosses coast, 20-25 cm rainfall and 70-100 km per hour wind speeds are expected along and off coastal area in Andhra Pradesh.
