Cyclone Jal has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm and is moving towards Andhra Pradesh coast and is expected to further intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm by November 7 evening. Thundershower has just started in Chennai. Jal cyclone moved at 13 kmph on November 6 but pickedup speed and is now moving at 22 kmph. Current location: Jal cyclone is now situated 150 km East of Chennai and 250 km Southeast of Nellore. Movement of Jal: It has moved 130 km in the last 6 hours. It is expected to move in the North-west direction towards Southern Andhra Pradesh coast. It is expected to move at 22 kmph from today morning. Landfall: Jal is expected to cross the coast between Chennai and Nellore on the night of November 8. Land fall location is near Sriharikota town just above the Pulicat lake in Nellore district. Expected time of landfall (8-10 PM). Jal cyclone weather forecast for Andhra Pradesh: Districts at very high risk: Nellore, Chittoor & Prakasam – Very high rainfall (thundershower) with gale winds reaching 50-70 kmph would commence along and off coast from November 7 afternoon and wind speed may reach 120-140 kmph at the time of landfall. Jal cyclone is moving slowly in the expected direction and will intensify further into a very severe cyclonic storm and is expected to cross the Andhra coast near Nayudupet (between Chennai and Nellore) on the mid-night of November 7. We will get more clarity on the area of landfall by tomorrow morning. As of now, weather is normal in the Coastal and Rayalaseema districts of Andhra Pradesh. Current location: Jal cyclone is now located 500 km South-East of Chennai and 600 km South-east of Nellore. Current speed of Jal: Cyclone is moving at 13 kmph per hour and is expected to pickup speed by tomorrow afternoon. Land fall: Jal cyclone is expected to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast near Nayudupeta (between Chennai and Nellore) on the mid-night of November 7 (6-11 PM) Weather forecast for Andhra Pradesh: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (thundershower) would occur in Prakasam, Nellore and Chittoor districts of Andhra Pradesh from November 7 morning. Depression formed over Bay of Bengal is now intensified into cyclone and slowly moving westwards. Weather department coined the term “JAL” for this cyclone. Very heavy rainfall with wind speed reaching 50-80 KMPH would commence along and off South Andhra coast from November 6. Current location of JAL: 830 km east-southeast of Chennai. It is now tracking in west direction. If it moves in the same direction, maximum damage will occur in Tamil Nadu near Chennai. If it moves in Northwest direction, Nellore, Chittoor & Prakasam districts will be worst affected. JAL cyclone Landfall: According to current situation, this severe cyclone will cross coast near Chennai on November 7 (around 2 PM-9 PM). Chittoor, Satyavedu and Sullurpet areas in Andhra Pradesh may see maximum damage. Most dangerous time: November 6 afternoon-November 7 evening. Depression formed in the Bay of Bengal is now situated 1200 km east of Chennai and is expected cross Indian coast (landfall) between Chennai and Ongole on November 7 evening. Alert: Heavy to very heavy rainfall will occur from November 6 morning along the Andhra Coast. Wind speeds: Squally winds speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph would commence along and off south Andhra Pradesh coast from morning of 6th November 2010. Sea conditions will be rough to very rough along and off these coasts from the same time. Current location: East of Ongole town and 220 kms north east of Chennai At 6 PM on Thursday: Near Machilipatnam. Heavy rainfall with wind speeds of 50-60 kms. It may not cross near Machilipatnam but moves slowly very near to that town. Both Krishna and Godavari district people should be on high alert. Its path is very near to these coasts. Expected landfall: Cyclone may cross Andhra coast near Kakinada at 1-2 AM on Friday. Update from Ongole: Heavy rainfall for last 6 hours with wind speeds of 30-40 kms. Water entered into many houses in Ongole town. Cyclone movement: It is moving slowly and moved just 6 kms in last 6 hours. Final analysis: It will not make landfall on Thursday but is expected to make heavy damage in most districts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh today.
