“Jal” cyclone update: November 6, 2010

  "Jal cyclone" formed over Bay of Bengal has intensified further into severe cyclonic storm and moved 80 kms in the last 6 hours in West-North west direction towards Chennai city. Due to warm conditions in Bay of Bengal, "Jal" is expected to intensify further into a very severe Cyclonic storm and cross the coast near Chennai and is expected to cause severe damage especially at the time of land fall due to 140 kmph wind along and off coast.  Current location of "Jal Cyclone": It is now located 600 km East-Southeast of Chennai & 700 km Southeast of Nellore city.  Landfall of Jal cyclone: It is expected to cross Indian coast near Chennai on the evening of November 7.  Weather forecast for Jal cyclone: Very heavy rainfall would occur in Northern Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh in the next 48 hours. Gale winds speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph would prevail along and off North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh coast commencing from today evening It may increase upto 120-130 kmph gusting to 140 kmph at the time of landfall    Andhra cyclone update: 15-25 cm rainfall may occur in Nellore, Chittoor & Prakasam districts on November 7. Heavy rainfall may occur on November 6 night in these districts. Andhra weather: Tropical cyclone alert

Andhra cyclone alert

  Depression formed in the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify and turns into a tropical Cyclone storm in the next 24 hours. Depression area is located 1,460 km East-South East of Chennai. It is moving very slowly towards Indian east coast. Highest rainfall in the last 24 hours occured in Ongole (6cm) and Kavali.  More clarity about Cyclone will be emerged by Thursday afternoon (November 4). Very heavy rainfall will occur in South Coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh and Northern Tamil Nadu.  Heavy rainfall in the last 3 days already caused huge losses to crops and properties. Weather update: November 3, 2010

  Heavy rains over last 2 days took heavy toll on the people of Coastal Andhra Pradesh especially on farmers. According to reports, heavy rains may last for another 2-3 days. But, no Cyclone warning is issued till now but weather department is closely monitoring the low presssure area which was formed in the Bay of Bengal near Andaman Islands. We may get more clarity on the situation by tomorrow afternoon.      Weather alerts:  1. Well marked Low pressure area was formed in the South Andaman sea.  2. It is expected to concentrate into a depression in the same area by November 4th.  3. It may intensify into a cyclonic storm and move west-northwestward towards north Tamilnadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts.   Weather forecast for South Coastal Andhra Pradesh:  Heavy rainfall will occur in many Coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh in the next 24-72 hours especially in South Coastal Andhra i.e; Nellore, Prakasam, Guntur & Chittoor.   Note: Some Media publications have started spreading rumours about Super Cyclone. So far, no cyclone alert is issued by either Indian meteorological department or International weather agencies. Laila cyclone update-4

 Laila cyclone is now slowed down a bit and is now located 160 km north-east of Chennai and is moving in northern and north-west direction. Laila moved just 7 kms in last 6 hours. Approximate location prediction: At 8-10 PM on Wednesday: East of Nellore - heavy rains 12-2 AM: East of Ongole - heavy rains Saturday 10 AM: Near Machilipatnam and east of Nizampatnam Laila super cyclone is expected to cross Krishna district coast near Machilipatnam at 1-2 PM on Thursday. 20-25 cm rains will lash along and off the Krishna coast and wind speed may attain 120 kmph.  … [Read more...]

Andhra Cyclone news

 Laila cyclone is now located just 250 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam which is expected area of landfall. Cyclone is expected to cross Krishna district coast at around 8 AM on Thursday morning. This syper cyclone is expected to cause heavy damage in Guntur, Krishna and Godavari districts as wind speed will be around 110-120 kmph at the time of landfall. Very heavy rain fall (20-25 cm) is certain in these districts. Nellore and Prakasam district people are lucky as it is moving in north and north-west direction in stead east and north-east direction. Unless it changes direction, these 2 district people are out of danger from nature fury. But, heavy rainfall is likely in these 2 districts at mid-night when it is near to Ongole coast while it is moving towards Machilipatnam. People and officials in Coastal Andhra Pradesh should be on high alert from today night. … [Read more...]
